It is again time for one of the Island’s most popular springtime events, the Clean Galveston Back Garden Tour. The Tour is held the first full weekend of June each year. That will be June 7th and 8th this year! The rain dates, if needed, are the following weekend.
There are ten private gardens and two bonus gardens on tour this year. The self-guided tours are on Saturday, June 7th, 10:00a – 5:00p, and Sunday, June 8th, 12:00p – 5:00p. Advance tickets are $7 and $10 the days of the tour. Tickets can be purchased at any of the gardens the days of the tour.

PARK BOARD UPDATE..by RoShelle Gaskins
The annual phenomenon on Galveston Island makes its return. The seaweed, our beach’s blessing sent by Mother Nature to protect the island and provide homes for sea creatures, will soon arrive. The name seaweed incorrectly implies that this “weed” has little value. In fact, it is a floating ecosystem and upon arriving onshore, it becomes an essential key to preventing coastal erosion.
LONE STAR TRIATHLON FESTIVAL
THANKS COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTEERS

Nature served up calm waters and sunshine for the second annual Lone Star Triathlon Festival at Moody Gardens, held March 28-30. The event attracted over 2,500 triathletes from across the country and the world, up 40% from last year’s inaugural event.....

Galveston Historical Foundation
May 2008

The 34th annual Galveston Historic Homes Tour opens on Friday May 2nd and runs the first and second weekends of May. On May 3rd and 4th and May 10th and 11th, guests can tour ten privately owned houses dating from the 1850s to the early 20th century. The Marcus and Laura McLemore House also known as the Lasker Home for Homeless Children is a usual opportunity this year. This large Greek Revival is a testimony to our early architectural influences as well as a wonderful part of Galveston history. The home holds memories for hundreds of adults who lived here as young children after the original home was lost during the 1900 Storm. The other houses show the work of local architects Alfred Muller and Nathaniel Tobey, both practicing here in the late 19th century. Our “in progress” property....

ENJOY AN ULTIMATE GOURMET EXPERIENCE AT THE SPA
Be honest, no matter what the pressure – no matter how high the bills – women will put away some cookie jar money! Then the cookie jar will then be emptied on something that makes us feel better: like a hot pair of ankle strapped, red patent leather stilettos! Well, I’d like to suggest an optional use for your “fun money”. Seriously consider a luxurious “just for ME moment” at The Spa at the Hotel Galvez..

ON THE BEACH WITH K-HOP - "REMEMBER THAT FIRST"
It seems like yesterday when I put my feet in the wax of my first surfboard for the initial time. Putting the 5’6’’ neon green Bob Martin shape under my arm, walking the seawall, and trotting down the stairs to the sand made me feel like the coolest kid in the world.
In surfing, like life; there are so many first times to experience. Most are a bit nerve racking, but they all send an adrenaline shock...
