Changes Time for Weekly Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Strand
Starting Saturday, June 12, Galveston Historical Foundation's
weekly walking tours of the historic Strand will begin at 9
a.m. instead of 10:30. Through Labor Day, September 6, 2010,
the new Strand walking tours will meet up at GHF's downtown
Le Clere building at 2417 Strand and will commence down the
street five blocks, ending at Hendley Row, a pre-Civil-War group
of buildings located at 20th and Strand. The one-hour tour will
focus not only on the architectural significance of the buildings
on the Strand, but on the culture and history that contributed
to the Strand being the “Wall Street of the Southwest”
in the late 1800s. Tickets are $10 each. Tour size will be limited
to 20 people, first-come, first-served, payable at time of tour.
