Take
Advantage of the Slowdown
Written

The
chill breezes blowing off of the Gulf give us a short
break on Galveston Island. As we wind down from Mardi
Gras and gear up for spring break, it’s time to
take a moment to remember why we live here. Taking time
for family and friends and enjoying a great homestyle
supper at THE JETTY at the Holiday Inn Resort is one of
those ways to relax.
THE
JETTY at the Holiday Inn Resort at 5002 Seawall, like
many of the other eateries on Galveston Island has been
reinvented after the “I word”. The décor
is lighter and filled with warm mauves and bright accents.
This is course one of the local eateries that feature
a spectacular view of the Gulf. The table settings are
a little more formal, making this a great place to bring
family and friends when they’re visiting the island.
And the menu has been reimagined in order to provide a
cheerful mix of old favorites and new ideas that are sure
to please.
On
a cold night in February, for example, sometimes, you
just need a good ole “down home” Texas favorite.
Their fried catfish with spicy, tear drop shaped hush
puppies did the trick. Lightly, coated in corn meal and
fried perfectly to form a light crunchy crust - it was
soothing, Texas comfort food time. The menu is filled
with old favorites including Country Fried Steak, Texas
Baby Back Ribs and Grilled Pork Chops.
Of
course, seafood doesn’t get the short straw here.
After all, even though we’re local, we appreciate
what the Gulf of Mexico has to offer. Start your meal
with Scampi Style Charbroiled Oysters, Jetty Crab Cakes,
Blackened Shrimp or Fried Calamari. Seafood comes in all
of its delicious forms here lots of Fish, including Salmon
and Shrimp; Grilled, Fried or Blackened.
I
would be remiss if I talked about comfort food here and
not mentioned the word; BURGER. Sometimes, given the hectic
schedule we all keep, a burger topped with all the fixin’s
while staring out in the Gulf at lunch, is just enough
to keep us motivated. For those who like their motivation
with an extra kick – The JETTY has surprises for
you. How about giving their Fried Seafood Stuffed Jalapenos
a shot? If jumbo jalapenos stuffed with shrimp and jack
cheese aren’t enough to get your juices flowing,
about a BBQ Jalapeno Burger or a set of spicy Buffalo
Chicken Wings?
THE
JETTY is just one of those family friendly eateries that
feature a little bit of everything for every member of
your family at prices that won’t rock the family
budget. From light salads to a hearty New York Strip Steak
– every member of your party will be able to find
something they’ll enjoy.
One
of the changes that many of the local’s here will
appreciate is the addition of a generous selection of
moderately priced, quality wines to the menu. Although
this is a great, family friendly spot, sometimes grown-ups
need a moment to sip a good glass of vino and think about
the day’s events. The Jetty has a host of great
labels you’ll appreciate such as Kendell –Jackson
Vintner’s Reserve (a big local fav), Francis Coppola
Diamond, Beringer, Tommasi and more. Now you can even
toast an event at the Jetty with a glass of bubbly from
J. Roget or Tattinger La Francaise. Of course there is
full bar service available in the Hotel – just ask
your server.
A
local night out isn’t’ a local night out without
dessert. THE JETTY has added Bread Pudding, Chocolate
Cake, Key Lime Pie and New York Style Cheesecake to its
traditional Ice Cream.
One
last note, if you’ve got teenagers or you’re
just hungry don’t forget that the Holiday Inn hosts
one of the island’s best breakfast values –
“ALL YOU CAN EAT WEEKEND BREAKFAST BUFFETS”.
In
short, sometimes we feel adventurous. We put on our “Food
Network” hats and venture out to explore. And there
are those days, after a long day a work, we just want
to put on a pair of jeans, grab the family, stare into
our plates and say “God Bless the USA”. On
those days – on days when mashed potatoes and gravy
really counts – it’s time to visit THE JETTY
at the Holiday Inn Resort.
The
Jetty at the Holiday Inn Resort is located at 5002 Seawall
Blvd. Visit them at Galveston.com at http://www.galveston.com/jettyrestaurant/.
Open Daily from 6; 30 am. – 2 p.m. and 5 p.m –
10 p.m.
