So many people have been watching the news about the recent earthquakes and volcanoes and getting worried about the 2012 predictions and the biblical “end of times”. Most people believe that there are now more earthquakes and volcanoes than ever before, more and bigger storms, flooding, etc. This is not true.

The earth goes through phases just like we do. There are no more than usual. All it takes is for one large earthquake and every other one, from the smallest up, is reported on the news

Shannon Braden“If you say ‘Mother’ one more time…,” my mother called out in a frustrated reaction to my childish demands. I waited… and waited some more… expecting to learn what my fate might be, should I call her again. Her words hung on air, and, for a brief moment I was wise enough to keep my mouth shut.

However, my need persisted, so I called out plaintively, “Sa……...ra?!” …And she smiled.

So many promises, so many yard signs, so many debates and forums and questionnaires - it’s a veritable wonderland of political hopes and dreams writ large upon our community. But will it mean anything in the long run?

We don’t have a great track record when it comes to voting here on the island. Only a mere handful of registered voters bothered to show up the last time around. This time, we’ve lost a big chunk of voters to Hurricane Ike, we have the largest slate of candidates on record and we’re very likely to thoroughly screw ourselves over.

Sometimes you hear something so incredibly stupid, so moronic, that you can't believe someone actually said something so crazy. It makes you stop and say, what the hell did he just say? You have to wonder if this person is serious. Do they really have a grip on reality, because if they did they would not make such idiotic statements. Just like kids, sometimes adults say the darndest things, only not as cute or innocent.

“I have been lied to by many people in my life so why the hell wouldn’t I believe that a no talent dope-tard would have broken into my heavenly abode and exchanged my mirrors for funhouse mirrors. The crazy ones that take one’s statue-esque form and transform it into a short dumpy potbellied ass-clown. Not so farfetched I foolishly believed.

When you work in the biz, you get a quick education in underhandedness. Lesser performers will steal, cheat, lie, bite you, trip you up, and sleep with whomever just to get in the biz.

It was Texas versus the East Coast. Some of Texas’ best surfing talent packed their boards, jumped on planes, drove 16 hours and wound up in the small surf town of New Smyrna Beach, Florida March 26 – 28.

Texas surfers have always had a little chip on their shoulder for not getting as much recognition for our surfing skills and accomplishments as our fellow surfers from the East or West coast.
